The working principle of the permanent magnet water pump is: when the stator winding of the motor is energized, a rotating magnetic field will be generated, and this rotating magnetic field will drive the rotor to rotate. Since permanent magnets are installed in the rotor, the rotor will cut the magnetic field lines when it rotates, generating a reverse magnetic field. This reverse magnetic field will interact with the rotating magnetic field generated by the stator winding, thereby generating a torque to rotate the rotor.


Compared with traditional asynchronous motors, the advantages of permanent magnet water pumps are:

  • Higher efficiency: The efficiency of permanent magnet synchronous motors is usually 5% to 10% higher than that of asynchronous motors, which means that under the same working conditions, permanent magnet water pumps can save more electricity.

  • Higher power factor: The power factor of permanent magnet synchronous motors is usually more than 0.9 higher than that of asynchronous motors, which also helps reduce energy consumption and improve system reliability.

  • Lower starting current: The starting current of permanent magnet synchronous motors is usually 50% to 70% lower than that of asynchronous motors, which helps reduce the current surge and impact on the power grid during startup.

  • Quieter operation: The operating noise of permanent magnet synchronous motors is generally 10% to 15% lower than that of asynchronous motors, which helps to improve the operating comfort and environmental friendliness of the water pump.

Therefore, the permanent magnet water pump is a water pump with higher efficiency, lower energy consumption, lower noise, etc., and can replace the traditional asynchronous motor-driven water pump in many occasions.

Permanent magnet water pumps are not suitable for all application scenarios. Its scope of application mainly depends on the following factors:


  1. Flow and head: Permanent magnet water pumps are usually suitable for applications where flow and head are relatively small, such as household water use, agricultural irrigation, industrial cooling, etc. For occasions with larger flow and head, larger water pumps are usually required, such as centrifugal pumps or axial flow pumps.

  2. Medium: Permanent magnet water pumps are usually suitable for transporting clean liquids, such as tap water, clean water, etc. For situations where solid particles or corrosive media are transported, water pumps made of special materials are usually required, such as wear-resistant pumps or corrosion-resistant pumps.

  3. Temperature: Permanent magnet water pumps are generally suitable for transporting liquids with temperatures between 0°C and 40°C. For occasions where high-temperature liquids are transported, high-temperature resistant water pumps, such as hot water pumps or steam pumps, are usually required.

  4. Installation environment: Permanent magnet water pumps are usually suitable for installation in indoor or outdoor dry and ventilated environments. For water pumps installed in humid, dusty or corrosive gas environments, special protective measures are usually required, such as explosion-proof pumps or corrosion-resistant pumps.
