Functions and uses of through-the-wall exhaust fans

Factory through-the-wall exhaust fans are mainly used for ventilation in factory environments. They can quickly exhaust the heat, smoke, dust, odor, and humid air generated in the factory, improve the indoor air quality, and create a relatively comfortable and safe working environment for workers. For example, in a welding workshop, the exhaust fan can promptly remove the smoke generated during welding to reduce the irritation and damage to the workers' respiratory tract; in a painting workshop, it can exhaust harmful gases such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to reduce the risk of explosion and harm to human health.


Maintain appropriate temperature and humidity in the factory. In some high-temperature production environments, such as foundries or heat treatment workshops, exhaust fans can help reduce indoor temperatures by exhausting hot air and promoting air flow, preventing equipment from being damaged by overheating and improving production efficiency. In humid processing environments, such as textile printing and dyeing factories, exhaust fans can reduce the moisture content in the air and prevent raw materials and finished products from getting damp and moldy.

Structural features of through-the-wall exhaust fans

Casing: Generally made of sturdy and durable metal materials, such as galvanized steel or stainless steel. The galvanized steel shell is low in cost and has a certain degree of rust resistance, which is suitable for general industrial environments; the stainless steel shell is more corrosion-resistant and suitable for use in environments with chemical corrosion risks, such as chemical plants. The design of the shell must ensure sufficient strength to withstand external forces during installation and use, and at the same time consider the sealing to prevent air leakage and affect the exhaust effect.


Blades: Blades are usually made of high-strength engineering plastics or metals. Engineering plastic blades are light in weight and low in cost, but may not be as good as metal blades in terms of high temperature resistance and strength. Metal blades (such as aluminum alloy blades) are more suitable for high-speed rotation and large-flow exhaust, and have good high temperature resistance and wear resistance. The shape and angle of the blades are carefully designed to ensure that sufficient wind pressure and air volume can be generated under the drive of the motor to achieve efficient exhaust.


Motor: The motor is the core power component of the exhaust fan. The through-the-wall exhaust fan motor used in the factory generally has a higher power to meet the exhaust needs of large areas and high loads. The motor has a high protection level, usually IP54 or above, which can effectively prevent dust and moisture from entering the motor, ensuring the normal operation and long service life of the motor. In addition, the insulation performance of the motor is also very important, especially in environments with flammable and explosive gases, explosion-proof motors are required to ensure safety.


Key points for installing through-the-wall exhaust fans

Choose a suitable installation location: The installation location should be determined according to the air flow direction in the factory, the distribution of pollution sources, and the structure of the building. Generally, it should be selected near the area where pollutants or hot air are generated, such as above or on the side of the production equipment. At the same time, the convenience of penetrating the wall and the impact on the building structure should be considered, and installation on load-bearing walls or walls with important pipelines and lines should be avoided.


Ensure a firm installation: During the installation process, use a suitable mounting bracket and fixing bolts to firmly fix the exhaust fan to the wall. The mounting bracket should have good contact with the wall and be able to withstand the weight of the exhaust fan and the vibration generated during operation. For larger and heavier exhaust fans, it may be necessary to pre-install a reinforcement structure on the wall to ensure the stability of the installation.


Sealing treatment: The gap between the exhaust fan and the wall should be sealed, and sealing strips or sealants can be used. Good sealing can prevent air from leaking from the gap, improve exhaust efficiency, and prevent rainwater, dust, etc. from entering the factory from the outside.

Maintenance of through-wall exhaust fans

Regular cleaning: During the operation of the exhaust fan, dust and dirt will accumulate on the fan blades and the surface of the shell, which will affect the exhaust effect and the heat dissipation of the motor. Therefore, it is necessary to clean the exhaust fan regularly (generally every 1-3 months, depending on the use environment), and you can use tools such as vacuum cleaners and wet cloths to remove dust and dirt. For stubborn stains on the fan blades, you can use appropriate detergents to clean them, but be careful to avoid the detergent from contacting electrical components such as motors.


Check the motor and transmission parts: Regularly check the operating status of the motor, including the motor speed, temperature, sound, etc. If the motor is found to have abnormal heating, vibration or noise, it is necessary to stop the machine for inspection in time. It may be caused by motor bearing wear, winding short circuit and other problems. At the same time, check the tension and wear of the transmission parts (such as belts, couplings, etc., if any), and adjust or replace the worn parts in time to ensure the normal operation of the exhaust fan.


Check the protective device: Check whether the protective devices such as the protective net and protective cover of the exhaust fan are intact. The protective net can prevent people from contacting the high-speed rotating fan blades to avoid safety accidents. If the protective net is damaged or loose, it should be repaired or replaced in time.
