What is a gas scrubber?

A gas scrubber is an efficient air pollution control device used to remove particulates, fumes and gases (especially acid gases) from industrial processes. This process occurs by "scrubbing" the pollutants by contacting them with a scrubbing medium (wet or dry), resulting in a residual exhaust gas of negligible particle size. Therefore, we divide them into dry and wet scrubber systems.

Gas Scrubber: A gas scrubber system uses water or other liquid solutions to scrub particulate matter and harmful gases from the gas stream. The gas scrubber captures fine liquid droplets or particles in the scrubbing liquid layer, and then separates the droplets from the gas stream.

Dry scrubbers: Dry scrubbers use dry reagents or slurries injected into the dirty exhaust gas stream to neutralize or eliminate gaseous components.

Choose the right solution:

Various process variables affect scrubber system performance and particle removal, namely particle size distribution, mist droplet size, and relative velocity between particles and mist droplets. The most important parameter is the particle size of the inlet dust content. Larger particles are easier to collect than finer particles. A key factor in effective particle removal in wet scrubbers is the creation of a mist of tiny droplets that act as a collection surface. When the scrubbing liquid has finer droplets and denser availability, higher scrubbing efficiency for finer particles can be expected.

The efficiency of the gas scrubber depends on the following main parameters:

• Formation of a mist of tiny droplets

• resistance due to pressure drop

• Selecting a scrubbing fluid suitable for gaseous pollutants

• Relative velocity between dust particles and droplets

• Homogeneous mixing between gas molecules and liquid phase

• Processing and reaction times between droplets and gas molecules

• Choose the right liquid to gas ratio
